Note 22D

This is just before the Confession of Sins.

By now, you may have noticed teenagers in uniforms that look a lot like Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Cub Scout uniforms.  These are more church - related youth group organizations than the U.S.-based second or third cousin organizations.

There are similar  youth organizations at other churches in Leogane, such as Sainte Rose de Lima Catholic Church.  Last year, one of the Notes mentioned an article in the New York Times that reported on the important work by Jonie Estin shown at right and her fellow youth group members the week immediately after the January 12, 2010 earthquake, beginning on the day of the Quake.

Also, last year the Notes included photographs of some of teen youth group members walking at the front of a funeral procession. In another photograph sent last year, the youth leaders were holding a rope across the street at the back of the Episcopal Church's Palm Sunday procession, in an effort to keep motos from driving through the procession. The youth group often serve as ushers at some services, and somewhat like honor guards at funerals and religious processions through Leogane City Center.

You'll see a teenager in a uniform in the back row of some of these videos, right in front of me.

Today's service at Legliz Episcopale Sainte Croix was in honor of the church's youth groups. The banner noting the celebration is in certain videos; hanging to the right of the altar as you look from the back of the church toward the altar.
